A low cholesterol diet ultimately means a low "saturated fat" diet. This is because the number one way to reduce your cholesterol is to reduce your intake of "bad" fats. Wait... This must mean there are good fats? Yes, you are correct!

There are two main types of fat, Saturated and Unsaturated. Saturated is your enemy, saturated is what causes high cholesterol levels. Unsaturated fat has been actually proven to reduce cholesterol. It also serves as an important aspect of proper brain function amongst other things

Therefore the way I suggest you lower your cholesterol is by reading food labels! Everyone always nags and whines about having to read food labels, but folks - seriously - it is not that difficult. If your ultimate goal is to lower your cholesterol, the main thing you need to pay attention to on the food labels is the saturated fat. If you notice that the majority of total fat comes from unsaturated fat, it'd be a great idea to avoid eating that particular product.

Dietary Cholesterol comes from animals. This includes eggs (particularly their yolk), meat, poultry, fish etc... You really do not need to consume any cholesterol, as your body produces it's own. Therefore, anything that contains a lot of cholesterol should be avoided.

When you lower your cholesterol - assuming you are overweight - you will also lose fat. Removing saturated fat from your diet will help a lot in the fat reduction process. I also recommend consuming more complex carbohydrates if you don't already. Approximately 40% of the food you eat every day should be composed of complex carbohydrates.

Your low cholesterol diet should consist of a very low intake of saturated fats, a high intake of complex carbohydrates, and an emphasis on staying clear of dietary cholesterol (check the food labels.) Doing this should help you lower your cholesterol levels. These are only general recommendations, before making any changes to your diet you should consult your physician.
